Writing Lab

One-on-One Assistance

The Columbus Writing Lab caters to all students who need additional help with their writing.  Students can walk in and receive help right on the spot or make an appointment to work with a writing lab assistant on a future date.  Students are also referred to the writing lab by their teachers.  When a student leaves the writing lab they will receive a stamped document advising their teachers (or parents) of what their students (or sons) worked on during their time in the lab.  Students who make an appointment will receive an appointment slip for a future date.

Students can utilize the writing lab for a myriad of reasons:

  • Assistance with written homework assignments
  • Essays (Expository, Informative, Reflective, Argumentative, etc.)
  • Research Papers
  • College Essays
  • Help with writing timed essays (SAT, ACT Prep)
  • Formatting (MLA, APA)
  • Organization
  • Creating sentence types and using proper transitions
  • Proper word usage
  • Proper Thesis, Body and Conclusion writing
  • Navigation of sites for research
The Writing Lab is run by students.  Members of National English Honor Society (NEHS) work one on one with the students during lab operating hours.  The lab is open from dismissal to 3:30pm (Tuesdays - Thursdays) during the first quarter, and from dismissal to 3:30pm (Mondays - Thursdays) during the second, third and fourth quarters.

The Writing Lab is located in room M-23 on the second floor of the Mas Technology Complex.
